June’s Jazz Encounter features drummer, composer, Calixto Oviedo & his Cuban Jazz Train band.
Calixto Oviedo is a Latin Grammy nominated artist (La Rumba del Siglo, 2000) Latín Grammy nominated 2020 ( Afro Peruvian Jazz Orquesta) and Grammy Nominated ( Afro Peruvian Jazz Orquesta) who has had the opportunity to play with numerous internationally known artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chucho Valdés, Danilo Pérez, David Sanchez, Luis Conte, Ray Barreto, Giovanni Hidalgo, Alfredo Rodriguez, Dave Valentin, Juan Pablo Torres, Orlando “Maraca” Valle and Tony Martínez as well as the celebrated Cuban percussionists Tata Güines, José Luis “Changuito” Quintana, and Miguel “Angá” Diaz in a very successful career that spans over 45years.
Oviedo is one of the most important representatives of Cuban Music & Latin Jazz in the world of drumming.
He founded his Latin jazz band in Stockholm, Sweden and is currently very active with his Cuban Jazz Train. We are in the presence of the greatest creators of Latin drums and an obligatory reference for all drummers and percussionists.
Since his arrival in the USA, he has worked in important festivals, jazz clubs and concerts. Musicians of a very high quality and demand make up this band.
