FIU Music Hour takes place every Tuesday, 11am – 12p, as a live performance and broadcast in the WDNA Jazz Gallery.

The program features Florida International University School of Music students, faculty, alumni and friends.

This week featuring the FIU Graduate String Trio, violinist Ruben Sabando, violist Caroline Senko, cellist Sada Adam, under the direction of Michael Klotz.

As active degree-seeking students, our trio strives for excellence in musicality. We have been working together performing various styles of chamber music over the last few years. Sada, our cellist, and Caroline, our violist, have bachelor’s degrees in music performance and are actively working on their master’s degrees. Ruben, our violinist, is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in music performance. Today’s repertoire compilation is comprised of several different composers from different time periods. The Mozart Divertimento in E flat major for string trio contains several nuances which characterize the light bushiness and simplicity of the Classical period. The Mozart duos for violin and cello may appear easy to play, but achieving the right sound and colors expected in Mozart’s repertoire create a challenge for its performers. Our final piece, Oblivion by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, is a 20th century tango which explores the unique elements which make his music instantly recognizable.
