About Kate Reid:

Jazz singer and pianist Kate Reid appears as a duo and with her trio and quartet at jazz venues in the Los Angeles and Miami areas.  Kate can be heard performing with Miami pianists Martin Bejerano and TalCohen, guitarist John Hart and trumpet player John Daversa and his Progressive Big Band. She is a featured performer presented by the Miami Jazz Co-op.  Kate has worked with many of the great jazz musicians in southern California including guitarists Ron Eschete and Larry Koonse, trumpeter and composer John Daversa, drummers Roy McCurdy and Jamey Tate.  Kate’s latest CD, The Love I’mIn, features tenor saxophonist Ernie Watts and pianist Otmaro Ruiz.

Reid is a working studio/session singer in Los Angeles. Her film credits include Tinkerbell: Legend of the Neverbeast, Planes, and Star Trek Into Darkness. She has lent her voice to network television series, commercial spots for Ace Hardware, T-Mobile, Suntory Whiskey and backing vocals for artists MUSE, X Japan and Josh Groban.  Kate co-authored the GLEE Vocal Method book for Hal Leonard publishing with producer/author Andy Waterman of Umbrella Media.

Dr. Kate Reid is associate professor of jazz voice in the Studio Music and Jazz department and Director of Jazz Vocal Performance at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Reid earned a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University, a M.M. and D.M.A. in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami.

About Chuck Bergeron

Born and raised in New Orleans, Chuck Bergeron has been an in-demand bassist for four decades. His career has included extensive amounts of touring and performing all over the world. Chuck studied at Loyola University and the University of Miami before joining the bands of Woody Herman and Buddy Rich. After the breakup of the Buddy Rich Band, Chuck moved to New York and embarked upon a 15-year career as a working professional bassist, performing, recording, and touring with a host of jazz luminaries. 

As a leader, Chuck has released eight albums. Four have been with the South Florida Jazz Orchestra, and four others have been with smaller groups that have featured Chuck’s compositions and arrangements in trio, quartet, and quintet settings. He has garnered three ASCAP awards for his writing, and critical acclaim has come from major jazz trade publications, including JAZZTIMES, DOWNBEAT, JAZZIZ and BASS PLAYER Magazine.

Over the course of a 40-year career, Chuck has been privileged to perform with a wide range of artists, including multiple Grammy award winners. A sampling of these artists include:  Stan Getz, Tom Scott, Dave Grusin, Randy Brecker, Wycliffe Gordon, Arturo Sandoval,Sean Jones, John Abercrombie, Tom Harrell, James Moody, Matt Wilson, Terell Stafford, and Peter Erskine. 

In 2000, Chuck accepted a teaching position at the University of Miami and relocated to South Florida. Earning his doctoral degree in Leadership in Higher Education, Chuck currently runs the Jazz Bass Studio and serves as Director of the Jazz Pedagogy Program at UM’s Frost School of Music. Additionally, Chuck leads the South Florida Jazz Orchestra, a critically-acclaimed modern big band comprised of the best jazz and studio musicians in Miami. Their fourth release, Cheap Thrills, features the writing and playing of Miles Davis saxophonist Rick Margitza. This recording will be released in the Spring of 2020.

STUDENT TICKETS

  • There is a limited number of FREE student tickets for the concert.
  • If you’re going to jam, LIST YOUR INSTRUMENT in the ticket form.
  • Tickets are reserved on a first come, first served basis for students who will attend the concert and participate in the jam session.
  • Students must show a valid student ID at the door to claim their FREE student ticket.
